I have worked on a number of web directories. I volunteered for the Open Directory Project back in the day. I also was an independent contractor for StudyWeb for a while. Since 2003 I have run the Civil War Search Directory. This last site was built on legacy ASP technology built by FullRevolution called aspWebLinks. Recently I decided it was time for my application to be updated - to move to ASP.NET 2.0. I was surprised to find that there was no good, free ASP.NET 2.0 search/link directory application available at this time. So I searched until I found Dexter Zafra's ASP.NET 1.1 XD Link Directory v. 2.3. Dexter placed this application under a very generous code license which allows you and I to utilize this code however we wish. So, I rewrote portions of the code to make them compatible with 2.0. I am sure there are still some errors, but I am looking forward to ironing them out and continuing to develop new features as well. But for the time being, I wanted to get this core application out and about and look forward to more regular releases soon.
