Here is some information about me based on a genetic analysis performed by 23andMe

  • I am twice as likely as the average male to develop Alzheimer’s between 50 to 70 years.[1]
  • I am three times as likely as the average male to suffer a venuous thromboembolism.[2]
  • I am slightly more susceptible to Age-Related Macular Degeneration (decreases in eyesight) and for Restless Legs Syndoms (RLS).
  • I am less likely than the average male to suffer from prostrate cancer, psiorasis, melanoma, rheumatoid arthritis, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, crohn’s disease, stomach cancer, exfoliation glaucoma, type 1 diabetes, or celiac disease.
  • Compared to the average individual, I receive reduced benefits from clopidogrel, hepatitis c treatment.
  • I metabolize caffeine slowly (thus not getting jumpy) but experience an increased risk of heart attack from caffeine consumption.
  1. [1] I am not particularly concerned about this, I expect a cure to be found before I reach that age.
  2. [2] This is a little concerning, though the amount that is predetermined by genetics is not overwhelming, so precautionary steps should help reduce risk.
